Randomness. So, I used to have a roommate who was a DJ and he got me to listen to techno and house and all that good stuff. There was a girl DJ that I saw a few times - DJ Icon - she definitely made me want to learn how to spin some vinyl. She's now on the Wade Robson Project on MTV. Wow, girl hit the mainstream! Dayam!

So....being a manager for a restaurant/bar is pretty intense. I know that there are long hours involved and late into the night, etc... but, I'm beginning to realize that this isn't for me. The whole events thing that I was doing for them went well while the summer lasted, but, I moved into being the night manager...and well, it's just not for me. I had my first tech interview last Wednesday. I hope/think it went well. They're supposed to call me on Monday or Tuesday to let me know if I made it into the next round. I'm scurred. I know that there are so many people out there vying for this position and they're all highly qualified. This is for a Sr. System Admin position. Oh goodness -- serious anxiety!!! The good thing about working nights, is that I've had time to study like a madwoman. I've been to the library more in the past two weeks than I ever went in school. Is that terrible? Well, I guess it's always good to keep interviewing.

Just terrible.... SF can be a very scary place to live. Champion kickboxer Alex Gong was shot and killed on Friday afternoon after chasing down the car that hit his car and ran off. It's very scary - he was a friend of the owners of the restaurant and often came in to hang out here. Ugh. It's such a bizarre world. I'm going to go hide in my room now.

Oh yummy.... I first saw him as a rookie for the Detroit Lions. Then last year he went to the KC Cheifs. Last year, he was one of People Magazines Top Eligible Bachelors. Johnnie Morton was on The Best Damn Sports Show last night. The girls and I were at the bar grabbing a li-hing mangotini...when alas we all stopped to watch the TV.

Our friend LL - a guy - was there with us.
LL: Ain't he married???
PS: Uh...NO! They're just commenting on his dating situation...shuddup, I want to hear.
LL: He's a-ight. Great fantasy player.
PS: Oh yes, he can play in my fantasies any day.
LL: That was a bit too much information.
PS: < grin >

There's always a story.... So, of course, I would expect to have a very mellow and tame July 4th. All started off well. Brought goodies to my friends' place to have hibachi...we're just sitting there with the grill fired up -- tri tips, asparagi, portabellos, chicken, ribs all cookin' away. Ahi poke to nibble on, plenty of beer to go around. The temperature up on Portola goes from a decemt 75 degrees to a downright frigid 50-somethin' degrees. With the heat and the cold mingling, a fog bank rolled in - as it usually does around that area of SF - and we were in the thick of it. So, we backed everything into the garage, except the grills...those we kept burning...huddling around it like a bunch of hobos at the tracks.

We'd invited a couple of friends to come over....so, they came after another raging bbq, with two friends, who in turn had brought two more of THEIR friends (visiting from Kansas). The last two friends of friends were two guys. I am not drinkin' the hater-ade when I say this, but, they were haole. And it was one of the guy's birthday...and he and the other guy had already had quite a few drinks, and they continued to do shots when they arrived. I'm having a conversation with someone, when a commotion in the back of the garage catches everyone's attention. Birthday boy and friend were strippin' down to their FOTL (Fruit of the Loom)...and wait!! off came the FOTL! All they had were their socks and sneakers on. We all saw verticle smiles. Then they turned around and we saw frank and beans. They were intent on recreating the Will Ferrell scene from "Old School" and yelled, "We're going streaking!!" They then proceeded to run up the street (a rather busy one, at that) and then come down....facing oncoming traffic. It's a wonder no one called the police. Or maybe due to the extreme cold and the effect it tends to have - they didn't feel the need. Birthday boy wanted to go streaking a bit later, so he didn't bother to put on any clothes save his FOTL. He then whimpered later that he didn't feel comfortable streaking again, unless the ladies present said they didn't mind that Johnson had shrunk, due to the cold weather. We all minded. And stated it. Keep it in your pants.

Ok, that was my July 4th. No more excitement for this old fogey. Good day.

Gotta love Nihon-jin inventions Even the little things seem just a little bit better. A couple of years ago, a friend of mine gave me a little bottle of eyedrops that his friend had brought over from Japan. Not only did they soothe my tired, contact wearing eyes, they made them tingle, kind of an odd sensation, but, cool, too....ever since then, I'd been having friends in Japan send me the Rohto eyedrops. Now, I see commercials for them on tv out here...whee!

Then the second one is quite amazing... my roommate (before we were roommates) bought all the staff these little bottles of drops. Not eyedrops. Doo doo drops!!!! Check this out... you administer a couple of drops to your toilet before you drop the kids off at the pool, and your shit don't stink!! LITERALLY! Instead, the pleasant smell of mint pervades the tiny (or large, for you ballers out there) room. It's a small bottle, so it's perfect to tuck in a purse and take out with you. I sent a bottle to my dad for Father's Day. My family's gonna thank me. :D My dad and Pop's from Friday have plenty in common.

Pppphhhhhttt!!! I'm not even sure how to go about writing this post. Right...here we go. I don't know about you guys, but, I try to tell myself that if the 'nice' guy is interested in me, I should/would go for it! Lo and behold, the opportunity presents itself - in the form of an old friend that I tend to run into every couple of years or so. Over dinner one evening, he actually came out and said that he has always had a crush on me...and my brain says..."This guy is very cool...would treat you very well...seems like there's compatiblity. You should go for it." So, I say..."I guess we could see where things go..." Then it starts...ultra-amourous emails (telling me WAY too much information), 5-6 phone calls a day, the "I want to see you, I know you're busy, but, please come over and visit...what time do you get off work..." The ultimate is that he sent an email where he talks about himself in third person. EW. I have tried to convince myself that I should give this a try....but....there are a lot of things that I can't handle. Like all things I take on in life - I love a challenge. This gentleman lays all his cards out on the table....yet, all the same, I don't think he really hears what I say....everything he does for me....is a bit off. I appreciate the effort...but, again, even though we've known each other awhile...he doesn't really know me. I don't really eat chocolate...but, he buys me chocolates. If it wasn't for the fact that my friends are the owners of this resturant/bar...I wouldn't be in the resturant business...I'm a geek girl -- plus, my job isn't really to be GM of this bar, it's to run special events outside of the resturant and import products and I manage the live music for the bar - to help the boyz out, I manage during the day and was bar manager until they got things in order (wow, i just shared my whole job description)...yet, my 'friend' sends me emails about these new business proposals for resturants and wants me to get on these food mailing lists...etc.... NO NO NO - NOT INTERESTED!!! He's never asked about what I see for myself in this job...what I want to do...and what my interests are. I've tried to explain it...but, the next day he sends me more of the same stuff. My roommate came in on Saturday night telling me that my 'friend' was expecting me to be bartending that night..and came in for his other friends going away party. He started asking all the staff where I was.

I think I just need to come out and say that I don't feel that way about him. As you can see...it's starting to grate on me. I do want to preserve some semblance of a friendship...especially since he's my women's volleyball team's coach. ACK!

Just Keep Swimmin' Just Keep Swimmin' My best bartender is moving to Sin City - think Tom Cruise in Cocktail. He's also a good friend who's...er.... 21 year old girlfriend dumped him. Best thing she could've done for him, I say. I would hate to be her and having to deal with an interstate relationship and all the hoochies on vacation looking to pick up a hottie bartender for the night. Well, we saw Finding Nemo on opening day to get his mind off of the drama. Though he moped through 90% of it...he picked up the whole "Gotta keep pluggin'" vibe of the movie. And thankfully, since the opening sequence is fairly traumatic - it kept all the kidlets in stunned silence through a good part of the movie. Now, I need to go through a pile of resumes and find me a new bartender.....at least now I have a place to crash on my forays out to the desert.
